If a horse is to go to a country outside the EU temporarily, Gelissen Horse Transport can arrange for a so-called ATA Carnet. We register the horse, if necessary together with other horses, on this customs form for ‘goods’ that are exported temporarily. This form is used for competition horses travelling to countries such as the United States, Norway and Switzerland. This also works the other way around, when US horses are transported here for competitions, but then the ATA Carnet is drafted in the US.
The ATA Carnet has several advantages:
- Using this one form simplifies customs formalities and reduces border delays;
- This document prevents tax, import duties or security payments;
- The document is valid for a year and within this period the horses may be freely imported and exported.
